DID famed Chotu Lohar to hold workshop in Silchar City
SILCHAR, August 18: A five–day–long workshop on various forms of dances will be held in Madhya Sahar Sanskritik Samiti hall from August 30. The workshop, organized by Dancekraft, will be conducted by Chotu Lohar, one of the top five participants of Dance India Dance (DID), Season III. Chotu Lohar has also acted in the film Any Body Can Dance (ABCD) made by well–known choreographer, Remo D’Souza.
Addressing a press meet held here today, Nabanita Saha, president, Dancerkraft, Silchar, said that they were organizing the workshop with a view to provide a platform to the talented dancers of Barak Valley so that they could nourish themselves by getting valuable suggestions and teachings from a dancer of such stature.
“Barak Valley is full of talented dancers, but they could not go to the top due to lack of proper skills. He (Chotu Lohar) will give training on different forms of dances including classical, semi–classical and western,” Nabanita added. According to her, this workshop will help the participants to nurture their talents and prepare for national level competitions.
The entire workshop is divided into two batches– kids and adults. The participants of age group of 6–14 will be in the kids’ batch, while the candidates above 15 will be in the adults’ batch.
Nabanita added to say that any one can participate in the workshop. Everyday the workshop will start from 4 in the evening. The closing ceremony of the workshop will be held at District Library auditorium on September 5 in which the participants of the workshop will perform. Chotu Lohar will also give his solo performance on the occasion. Among others present at the press meet included Rupam Nandi Purkaystha, adviser, Kailash Koiri, secretary, etc.
