33,108 candidates file nomination for Phase III of panchayat polls

GUWAHATI, Jan 18: Around 33,108 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the third phase of the panchayat polls slated to be held on February 12. This was informed by Assam State Election Commissioner Biren Dutta at a press meet held in the city today. The last date of filing the nomination papers was on January 16. Meanwhile, 26,500 candidates will contest in the second phase of the panchayat polls. Talking to mediapersons, Dutta disclosed that in the second phase of the panchayat elections, 651 candidates will contest the Zilla Parishad elections, 2,459 candidates will fight the Anchalik Panchayat elections, 2,821 candidates will contest the Gaon panchayat president polls and 20,569 candidates will contest the Gaon Panchayat members post.

Protest against illegal infiltration in Assam

Guwahati Run and Walk is an event to raise awareness about a few remarkable persons and their organizational work namely Lanu A Aimol, who runs SHED a school for the physically and mentally-challenged children, Pradip Sarma, founder of the rickshaw bank, Kaushik Das, who is providing working opportunities to the disabled, Father Lukose, founder of 'Snehalaya' shelter homes and Uttam Teron who runs Parijat Academy for underprivileged children. This year the event was led by noted Gandhian Natwar Thakkar .
